Many will be retired or semi-retired. They are readers of quality newspapers, take foreign holidays, enjoy eating out, have a range of bank accounts and financial products and support a good cross section of charities. These people tend not to answer consumer surveys and are more likely to opt out of the edited electoral roll. Although this makes them more difficult to identify and source, it also means that they should have had less exposure to mass mailings and could be more receptive to direct mail.
For more than 20 years, investor lists compiled by BRG Direct Ltd have proven to be amongst the most responsive available for charity, financial and upmarket mailings.
The Investors Masterfile has been created by capturing publicly available information from company registers. Recent legislation, however, has removed the obligation of registrars to publish details of individual shareholders unless they hold more than 5% of a company's stock. Effectively this now excludes all but the very largest shareholders from the public domain and will prevent any future compilation of such lists.
